Successful casino night benefits many seniors

Thousands of dollars were won and lost Saturday, April 26, at the Sno-Valley Senior Center in Carnation. Not real money, but Monopoly-like play dollars. It was the second annual Casino Night, a fabulous event designed to benefit seniors, both the Cedarcrest High School seniors and the senior center seniors.

Kim Lisk, chairwoman of the festivities, gathered the volunteers, gaming tables, food and drink. Various local businesses sponsored the wine bar and the game tables, and donated items for both a raffle and a loud, lively auction.

For a $25 donation at the door, guests got access to the gaming tables (blackjack, poker, roulette, craps and bingo), food and drink.

At the end of the evening, players used their play money to bid on the auction items. Local businesses donated time as well as financial sponsorship with gift certificates and gift baskets for the raffle and auction. Many sponsors rolled up their sleeves and served as dealers at the game tables or tended bar, too.

Winning, and losing play money is always more fun than the real thing, so look for the Seniors for Seniors Casino Night again next February. You may want to brush up on your Texas Hold’em, too.
