I REMEMBER WHEN...
“1911 saw the building of the fourth school. It was directly in front of the existing building and housed the eight grades, leaving the old building for the high School. A cottage was built on the property for the residence of the principal. A huge well-equipped play shed was erected in 1913. Girls wore black bloomers to play there.
“In the year 1917, y-18 graduated seven seniors. In 1919 - 1920 some boys who left school to enlist in World War I came back to earn their diplomas.“ ....
There were many activities... including baseball, track and basketball (played in the open air pavilion downtown). Games were played with other valley towns, as well as Remond and Kirkland. Girls basketball team were county champions in 1916 and the boys in 1921.
“Other school activities were ... annual declamation contest… debating, track and field day. A Literary Society flourished in years 1915-1918. A small band attended various athletic events.
With the gymnasium a reality in ‘21 there was at last an auditorium for school and community as well as the basketball court.”
