Boys Scouts celebrate 100 years

Thursday evening, Feb, 25th, Cub Scout Pack 569 of Duvall celebrated the annual Blue and Gold Dinner at Cherry Valley Elementary. 47 boys from 6 years old to 10 years old, and their families celebrated the 100th birthday of scouting.

The Boys Scouts of America began in 1910, and Cub Scouting began 20 years later. TheBlue and Gold Dinner celebrates scouting and is one of the most exciting events of the whole year because all families can take part. The dinner brings together the pack families for an evening of dining and fun. The meal is important, but even more important is the warm, congenial atmosphere created as families enjoy each others company.

In addition to celebrating scouting, the dinner is also a time for the boys to be given awards for all their hard work learning new activities since September. Each den celebrated boys achievement in the core ideals of scouting, including citizenship, character development, and personal fitness. Awards for den achievement, Pinewood Derby, Popcorn sales, First Aid, Basketball, and more were handed out to the boys.
