Red Wolves boys basketball team loses final game in districts

CHS boys’ basketball team “left it all on the floor” as stated by Coach Rieke as they played against conference foes: the Lakewood Cougars in the consolation round of the Class 2A Northwest District Tournament on Tuesday, March 2nd at Mt. Vernon High School. The Cougars defeated the Red Wolves in an “almost but not quite” game knocking them out of district play 63-69.
At the end of the first quarter the Red Wolves were up 16-12; however fell behind in the second quarter and went into the locker room trailing 29-36. The Red Wolves actually won the second half of the game outscoring the Cougars 34-33; however it was not enough to win the game.
Daniel Campbell led the team with 25 points as he went 10 -for-16 from the field and hit five from beyond the threepoint arc. Joe Corpus scored in double digits as he dropped in 16 points and went 6-for-6, that would be 100%, from the bonus line. Corpus also led the team in rebounds with seven. Zach Taylor and Colton Rekers each went 100% from the bonus line as well as they dropped in four straight. Rekers finished the night with nine points. Taylor pulled down six rebounds and assisted on eight buckets while taking the ball away from the Cougars three times. Chris Dowd added 10 points to the Red Wolves score while Tanner Marty added six points, pulled down five rebounds and blocked a key shot as he defended against the Cougars attack.
