New Duvall Council members, Presentations at Jan. 13, Meeting
At the regular Duvall City Council meeting held on Thursday, January 12, at 7pm, two new council members were sworn into office by Mayor Will Ibershof. Council member Leroy Collinwood (position 3) and Becky Nixon (position 4) were sworn in at the start of the meeting. Council members Gerard Cattin, Elizabeth Walker, Gary Gill and Amy Ockerlander were also present.
Also during the meeting, Mayor Ibershof and Council member Ockerlander presented outgoing council member Jeff Wolf (position 7) with a plaque of appreciation for his service on the Duvall Planning Commission and on the City Council.
“Jeff has been a great sounding board and as a business owner in Duvall, he brought a unique perspective to both the Planning Commission and City Council,” said Ibershof. Each council member thanked Wolf for his hard work on behalf of the City of Duvall. The Council is expected to interview and select a replacement for Wolf at its next regular meeting on January 26. The person who replaces Wolf will serve out the term which is then up for election in November, 2013.
Mayor Ibershof also recognized Tony Schuler with a plaque of appreciation for his service on the Duvall Cultural Commission (DCC). The DCC liaison to the city council, Kass Holdeman, expressed her appreciation to Schuler for the work he did on the Commission and for stepping into the Chair position. Council member Walker also recognized his work saying, “it seems like Tony was on DCC for longer than two years because of all the work he has done.”
In another presentation at the meeting, Josh Brown shared his plans for his Eagle Scout Big Rock Playground project with the council. He told the council that the motivation behind the project was to give the siblings of children playing baseball at the Big Rock Ball Park something to do during games. He noted other improvements such as concessions, lighting and walking trails that could become future Eagle Scout projects. Brown discussed pictures of equipment he would like to see installed at the playground including picnic tables and he explained the financing and volunteer support needed to complete his project. Brown would like the work to be done by June of this year. There was general consensus among council members to move forward with the project.
