CHS Boys Basketball Victory Over Coupeville

By River Current Staff, with contributions from Head Coach, Mark Prince

There have been few games to report due to the inclement weather over the past two weeks. But Cedarcrest Redwolves have still been at work. Most recently, the Redwolves defeated Coupeville, 82 to 43.

“We were able to take advantage of a smaller, younger Coupeville team,” said head coach, Mark Prince. “Coupeville came out with some good energy and played hard for 32 minutes. We were able to get some players some extended minutes that normally don’t, which was really great.”

“We shot the ball really well tonight, shooting 56 percent from 2 point range and 45% from 3 point range,” he added. “In turn, we were able to hold Coupeville to 40 percent.”

Prince said that one of his team’s strongest assets is their teamwork on the court.

“What I like about this team is that they are unselfish which has really shown over the past few games with our assist to made baskets ratio,” he explained. “This game, out of 31 made shots, we had 20 assists which shows that guys are not looking for their shot or to fill up their individual stats sheet and makes us tough to defend. Our defensive was aggressive leading us to 25 steals.”

“Though I don’t like these type of lopsided games, it gave us an opportunity to work on some defensive sets for future games,” added Prince saying he feels the team is “starting to put it all together both offensively and defensively. The guys have committed themselves to playing better defensively and improve each game and if we can continue and can make it tougher on teams from a defensive perspective in combination with our offensive we will be a tough team down the stretch.”

After the storms...

Head Coach Prince said the team had its first practice on Saturday, January 21, after missing four days due to the inclement weather.

The time off had a few positives, according to Prince. Time off gave the team added energy which reflected in their practice. He said the players seemed to have missed not being able to practice and being around teammates.

“They were having a lot of fun, there were a lot of smiles,” he said. “We look forward to getting back on our regular schedule starting Monday and preparing for the teams that we play the last two weeks of the season.”
